About the Song
All I Need Is You was selected as a single because of its optimistic Beatlesque
feel. Its mood and feel ran counter to the music business culture of desperation
and angst that was prevalent at the time with groups like Nirvana and
Nine Inch Nails. Its anti-cultural, anti-consumerism message is deceptively
obscured by the playful facade of the musical accompaniment. The structure
of the track pays homage to the little used A-A-B-A song structure.
About the Video
The video for All I Need Is You was the brainchild of
Kevin Ferd. A long time fan of the Beatles, he felt that by capturing
a simple live performance and using interesting camera techniques the
song's message would be able to stand on its own. Two versions of the
video were made. One in black and white and one in color. The black and
white version became the version that ended up on the independent music
video shows going to number one on many regional charts. Unfortunately,
its message was lost on the alternative generation which at the time was
subscribing to MTV''s version of teenage angst.
